‘Drunk’ Briton loses foot after falling asleep on train track in France | UK News
A British man had his foot sliced off after apparently falling asleep drunk on a train track, according to French media.
The man in his 50s, who has not been named, was hit by a freight train at Rennes station in the early hours of Wednesday.
The driver braked but could not stop in time and the man also suffered serious head and abdomen injuries.
Police said the man was visibly drunk, according to news site Franceinfo, who also reported that he was from Jersey, in the Channel Islands.
It is not known if he was living in Rennes, in northwest France, or just visiting.
Rail company SNCF said it did not understand how he got on to the tracks because the station is locked at night and patrolled by guards.
